Souvenir

i didn't come home with a watch, a knife or chocolates.
my souvenir was a set of water colors from caran d'ache,
a swiss color-maker founded in 1924.
(ok ok, and about 3 kilos of smuggled cheese.)

Poppy's 1st Birthday!

poppy was adopted, so we'll never know her "real" birthday.
but on july 11th, 2011 we took poppy for her first vet appointment.
we thought she was 4 months old, but the vet said she was 7
(she already had all of her teeth).
so, we called her 7 months on that day, and that made her birthday 1/11/11
yesterday poppy turned 1 year old!
today we will go to the dog store, and she will pick out her presents.
she will probably add to her collection of bunnies.

Potluck Reunion

once upon a time there was a weekly event called sunday supper club.
arianna, sarah, rachel and i would gather in bk and cook one another interesting foods.
more often than we cared to admit, those recipes would come from smitten kitchen.
when we returned from switzerland, we were delighted to find arianna & erik
were visiting from sweden, and had set up camp in our apartment.
we rounded up the troops, and called an impromptu, couples version of "ssc."
new smitten kitchen recipes were of course tested,
(in addition to swedish treats and homemade beer)
arianna, we miss you. won't you move back?

Switzerland: The Chalet

for the holidays we went to switzerland and stayed in mark's family's chalet.
we found red shutters, sunny breakfasts, snow shoes,
spaetzle cooked in wood fired ovens, a very well dressed piano playing papa,
cross country skiing,  mulled wine outdoors, chevron shutters, eggnog,
backgammon, furry hats,
fresh snow, and lots and lots and lots of cheese.

Big Project

a sneak peak of chris's apartment,
which he generously and trustingly asked me to design.
after 6 weeks, we all but wrapped up the project last saturday,
when he had 50 folks over for a holiday party and unveiling.
(this project was also the reason for lackadaisical posting lately)
expect a full photo tour when i return from switzerland.
