Christmas Cocktail Party

a few months ago (you know, around christmas time)

we had our friends and family over for a little holiday celebration.

bow ties and cocktail dresses were encouraged, and plenty

of pups attended in their party clothes as well.

a belated thanks to ryan for snapping off these photos with my camera,

grace for gifting me that amazing red vintage tulle holiday apron,

and to the joy of cooking for its dependable,

highly alcoholic and caloric eggnog recipe.

Marilyn Monroe, 1950

clearly i have been sucked into the life magazine photo vortex.

i love these pictures of marilyn monroe not because they are marilyn monroe,

but because they are summer, through and through.

and because i cannot wait to be barefoot in high-wasted shorts and tucked in button up.

Curb Appeal

i love when a historic sign or store front that is familiar to a
neighborhood is preserved and re-purposed.

i can think of a handful of examples of such store fronts in new york

(which i am now thinking i should series on these pages),

but it is possible none works so well as this stuart & wright boutique in fort greene.

the shop occupies the space of an old french garment cleaners on lafayette,

and the collection of blue and white clothing that the little store carries works so
nicely with the sign's colors, it almost looks like it has been designed as a set.

Ties & Collars

love these little bow ties and collars from the belgian company claudine & compagnie.

the bow tie is an old favorite, but the collars are a great way to make any old

shirt, sweater, or dress feel like a brand new piece.
they even make them in liberty florals.

Barbour Coat Rewaxing

i bought sebastian a green waxed barbour cotton coat for christmas one year.

i bought poppy a green waxed cotton barbour coat before this winter started.

i did not think about them matching. but they do.

and while i think sebastian is secretly embarassed about it,

i secretly think its adorable.

it was even more adorable when last weekend sebastian decided

their jackets were due for fresh weather-proofing.

poppy watched intently, perhaps jealously, as he took lots of time

to rub them down with an old bandana dipped in thornproof dressing.

after, the jacket is just like new. and the smell of the fresh wax is even better.

i'll be able to wear them one day, right?

Gap Oxfords

snagged these yesterday at gap on the way home from work.

a man behind me in line said "those look comfortable!"

he is right: for $49, i'm still trying to understand how the suede is so buttery.

best part? they are super comfy even without socks,
which makes them the perfect winter-to-spring shoe.
(and i can't wait to stick some red laces in them)
note: they come in bright yellow and fuchsia too,
but none of them appear to be on the gap website?
