Vermilion: A Small Town On A Great Lake

A couple of weekends ago I drove with Poppy and Sebastian out to Ohio for a big family weekend at his dad's beach house on Lake Erie. Sebastian's dad Ted is a Fellow at the Cleveland Foundation, and about a year ago he and his wife Shannon moved to Ohio so that Ted could be closer to his work. In addition to their home in the city, Ted and Shannon have a lovely waterfront cottage in the town of Vermilion.  The town's little main street looks like a movie set (complete with an adorable soda fountain), and is nestled along a river and harbor which are full of lovely sailboats. We spent plenty of time at the beach (which was dog friendly!), had a picnic on the water, visited an auction, did some antiquing, and ate lots of ice cream.
Ohio, you're for me.

Brooklyn in the Springtime

it's spring in brooklyn! we've been spending lots of time outside:
soakin' up the sunshine by prospect park's magnolia trees...

spying cool old utility covers in prospect park's long meadow...

admiring multicolored town homes in park slope...

feeling excited that spring is snowball season...

planting lots of greenmarket herbs...

swimming at the dog beach on propsect park's peninsula (which we finally found!)...

making difficult hot dog decisions at the brooklyn flea...

sharing snacks with nico and yaya...

bringing home the sunniest of daisies from seaport flowers...

ogling the mystic whaler (parked at the pier 5 soccer fields on a rainy sunday)...

hiding and seeking...

taking windy walks around brooklyn bridge park's piers...

flower gazing at the campus-like gardens of brooklyn heights' plymouth church...

 home touring in the neighborhood...

spending more time in the lake (its never enough!)...

smelling lilac everywhere...

sitting with seltzer on sarah's terrace...

splashing in puddles at the playground...

and the most exciting thing of all: "BOAT!"

Vermont: The Party

on august 4th sage and colin celebrated their marriage and nico's
wonderful existence at colin's family home in montpelier, vermont.
a bluegrass band played under a gorgeous tent on their rolling property,
kids ran about and played with bugs, dogs tried their hardest to get at the its it bars
that were served in lieu of a cake, and when the sun set, three years worth of
yard brush, old christmas trees and scrap wood were lit into a massive bon fire.
could not have been more perfect.

Vermont in August

in august we went up to calais, vermont to see sebastian's family
and celebrate his sister's year-ago marriage.
we rented a little hansel and gretel cottage for almost no money,
and rowed our little sears row boat across the lake to see the gang.
there were lots of babies, beers, flowers and cooking,
and the whole time the sky was a vermont perfect blue.
